480Hz high brush monitor coming? It is expected to hit the market in 2023

2023-01-03

Today's esports monitors have been up to 360Hz, and even have ultra-high refresh rates of 390Hz. While there aren't many users for high-brush esports displays such as 300Hz or even 240Hz, that hasn't stopped manufacturers from exploring even more extreme refresh rates.

According to a number of foreign media sources, who have been informed by supply chain sources, panel companies such as LG and AU are actively working on panels with higher refresh rates, which are expected to reach 480Hz.

According to foreign media, the 480Hz panel refresh rate will be 8 times higher than the normal 60Hz panel, and 1-2 times higher than the current high-end panel.

In terms of timing, the 480Hz panel is expected to arrive in 2022, with a display likely to be in production by the end of 2022, though it may not be available until 2023. As for the price of the moment there is not much news, but foreign media expect that the price will not be very cheap at the launch.

And even if the price is impressive, 480Hz displays won't perform well in the beginning.

According to foreign media, due to technical limitations, the 480Hz monitor will only be able to achieve 1080P resolution at most. The first 480Hz monitor will be 24.5 inches in size, and other aspects will support HDR 400 and sRGB color space.

The idea of a 480Hz display isn't new. Zisworks tested a 480Hz panel back in 2017, but it was able to achieve a much lower resolution of 540P, or 960×540.

The question that may have occurred to you at this point is, "Can the human eye really distinguish such a high refresh rate?"
